Review - Is That a Fish in Your Ear?
There was a lot of fascinating information in this book, but it went on for about 100 pages too many. The final chapter was the author's attempt to debunk the Biblical account of language diversity and, instead, explain it in terms of evolution. His premise is that we each have our own language as a means of establishing our own identity and groups have their own languages as a means of forming community. Translation, then, is a means of sharing information between communities.
