Reviews for The Giver
Review - Giver, The
Cliche. Within a couple pages, I knew basically how it would end and what the point was. It is also, unintentionally, a pretty strong argument against abortion.

| Notes: | Jonas lives in a world where all choice, all risk, all challenge, all emotion has been removed. Anyone who doesn't conform is "realeased." At the age of 12, he is assigned the role as the community's memory-keeper. From an old man known only as the Giver, Jonas receives memories of a world where there was color, music, and love, but also pain and death. When he discovers that "release" is really putting the person to death, he can't take it. The Giver agrees, and he and Jonas plan for him to escape. Things don't work out as expected, and Jonas has to flee early, taking along a young child named Gabriel who is scheduled to be released. After a long stretch of days, they finally make it to a city outside the community. |
