Notes:Based fairly closely on the true life of Pino Lella, a teenager from Milan who spent WWII helping Jews across the Alps into Switzerland and then driving a high-ranking German officer while passing on what he learned to the partisan fighters. Pino fell in love with Anna, only to see her killed by the partisans who thought she worked with the Nazis. After the war, Pino discovered that General Leyers knew he was spying and probably allowed him to observe. Pino believed that Leyers knew the Nazis would lose the war and was positioning himself to make a deal.

Review - Beneath a Scarlet Sky

Well-written, exciting, and sad. It's sad that Pino saw Anna die, and it's sad that with so much potential he did nothing more with the rest of his life but drive cars and work as a ski instructor.
