Notes:During WWII, a blind girl named Marie escapes Paris with her father and goes to live with her great uncle Etienne in Saint Malo. Her father was the locksmith at the Paris museum, and he carries the museum's greatest treasure — a blue diamond known as the Sea of Flames — for safekeeping. A German boy named Werner, a genius with radios, is trained by the Nazis to intercept radio signals. His sister, Jutta, is angry with him for submitting. The war goes on. Marie's father is sent to prison. Etienne builds a radio in his attic and sends info to the Allies. Werner is sent to Saint Malo to find the radio. He does, but he sees Marie and finally decides to stop submitting and doesn't reveal the location. The Americans bomb the city. Werner is trapped in a basement. Marie is alone in the house, stalked by a German officer who knows about the diamond. Werner kills the officer and leads Marie out of the city. He's captured and soon dies. Marie lives a long time, meets Jutta, discovers Werner's fate. The diamond is lost — sitting in the bottom of a shallow chamber in the walls of Saint Malo.

Review - All the Light We Cannot See

I really, really enjoyed it until Werner meets Marie and then leaves her. After that the book rambles on for another 20 pages or so, but nothing is resolved, nothing has a point, nothing is satisfying or insightful.
