He was captured again, but after the war he returned and married Wanda. Twenty years later, they decided to buy a house near where Newby had lived during the war. This books relates their experiences buying the house, fixing it up, getting to know the neighbors, harvesting their wine, and exploring the area.

Review - A Small Place in Italy

Newby is a good writer, which is the only thing that saves this otherwise dull book. Nothing happens. Even the funny parts are reduced to mild amusements. He made life in Italy sound rustic in a simple-minded way, and there wasn't a moment when I thought I might to experience what they were experiencing.
