Notes:Detective Mark McPherson has been assigned the case of the murder of Laura Hunt. His chief suspects are writer Waldo Lydecker, and Laura's fiance, Shelby Carpenter. As he finds out more about the dead girl, McPherson begins to fall in love with her. He's sitting alone in her apartment late one night when Laura walks in. It turns out she had lent her apartment to an actress named Diana with whom Shelby was having an affair. In the end, McPherson figures out that Lydecker was the murderer, and, in fact, prevented him from succeeding on a second attempt. Lydecker couldn't have Laura himself, but was jealous of anyone else and so determined to kill her before she could marry Shelby. Laura falls in love with McPherson and calls off her wedding with Shelby.

Review - Laura

Very similar to the movie, but the novel's version of Laura wasn't as beguiling as Gene Tierney. The person telling the story kept switching, which was at times confusing and always annoying.
