Notes:A year in the life of a group of settlers who travel to Oregon and begin a community. The central character is Rice Burnett, 30-years-old, a former trapper who plans on setting up a mill. He's torn between two women, Edna, a sensuous woman who can't help flirting with every man she meets, and Katherine, steady, discreet, and wise. There are others, some of whom have accidents, some who die, others who succeed. At the end of the year, the community is off to a good start, and Rice decides Katherine is the woman he wants.

Review - Earthbreakers, The

Great characters, and I really got a feel for what life must have been like. It was a ridiculously-eventful year, implausibly so at times, but I enjoyed it. There haven't been many books lately that caused me to stop everything else to finish them.
