Notes:The author's memoirs of growing up in a dysfunctional family in Texas and Colorado. Her mother was plagued with guilt over two children from an earlier marriage that had been taken away from her. As a result, she was unstable, usually drunk, and often suicidal. Her father was kind but kept out of the picture as much as possible, preferring to hang with his buddies and tell stories. Mary and her older sister had to be the adults in the family from a very young age. They suffered privation, emotional and sexual abuse, and instability.

Review - Liar's Club, The

Crude and uncomfortable. I suspect that the author remembers herself as being more precocious than she really was, but still, with that life, it's amazing she is able to function at all.
