Notes:Mr. Edgar Finchley, clerk in London, heads off on his first holiday. Before he leaves the city, he ends up in the company with criminals who keep him locked in an old house. He manages to escape, and finds himself on an extraordinary journey around the country, meeting unusual people and getting a very different view of life. Along the way he's mistaken for an insane murderer, takes up with gypsies, sleeps under the stars, and takes a sea voyage with a man who turns out to be a smuggler. And he enjoys every moment of it.

Review - Mr. Finchley Discovers His England

Amusing, although the middle of the book bogs down with adventures that seem very similar. Finchley's capacity for running into out-of-the-ordinary people is amazing.
