Notes:A group of wealthy men, to pass the time, enter into a tontine with a twist. Whichever of their sons is the last to marry gets the money—$1 million. When only two are left, Keggs, the butler of one of the men, tells one of the sons, Roscoe Bunyan, about the tontine. He hopes to get 10% of the money as thanks, but when Bunyan stiffs him, Keggs makes other plans. Meanwhile, Keggs' friend Jane has fallen in love with one Bill Hollister. Keggs tells Bunyan that Hollister is the other remaining unmarried member of the tontine, although he isn't. Bunyan agrees to give Hollister half the money, and Hollister and Jane get married and wealthy. There's a pimply private eye, a bad sculptor, and Jane's kindly crossword-working uncle around the clutter the plot.

Review - Butler Did It, The

Really a mess of a plot with tons of unlikable characters. It's really only Bill, Jane, and her uncle that are worth rooting for. But as is usually the case in Wodehouse books, the dialogue is hilarious.
