Review - Assault on a Queen
Not a bad read, but I never for a moment lost sight of how ridiculously impossible the whole thing was.

| Notes: | Hugh Brittain is bored with his life, so when his old Navy buddy Vic offers him a chance at an adventure, Hugh grabs it. With three other men and a woman, they plan to raise on WWI German submarine from the bottom of the ocean, then use it to rob the Queen Mary as she sets out across the ocean. Frank, a German, was on the sub when it was scuttled, and the idea was his, but Moreno is made the captain of the venture. Moreno and Hugh are both interested in the woman Rosa, but she doesn't want a relationship at the moment. They manage to get the sub working again, then intercept the Queen Mary and convince it to stop by telling the captain they're on a secret mission and need a part for their engine. Once aboard, they threaten to torpedo the ship if their demands aren't met. They take all the cash from the safe, then begin searching the first-class passengers. Halfway through, the whole thing stops being an adventure for Hugh and he regrets being part of it. He realizes that someone has signaled to a U.S. destroyer, which is approaching fast. The men flee back to the sub. Hugh decides he doesn't want the money. He pushes off the boat without bringing it, claiming that they have no time and have to dive. Frank intends to torpedo the destroyer to get a way, but Hugh decides he'd rather die than kill innocent men. He convinces Moreno and Rosa too, and they stand off Frank and Vic. The sub is failing and they barely manage to make it to shore. The gang breaks up, but Moreno and Hugh, who now respect each other, both vow to keep seeing Rosa. |
