Notes:An account of the many Europeans who were captured on ships or in shore raids by North African Arabs and forced into slave labor. The account centers mostly on Moroccan sultan Moulay Ismail and Englishman Thomas Pellow, who was captured when he was 11 and remained a slave for 23 years. Pellow wrote a memoir of his years as a slave—the torture, his forced conversion, his appointment as a guard of the sultan's harem and then as a captain of slave soldiers, and finally his escape and return to England.

Review - White Gold

The current narrative that all slavery was White people enslaving Black people is simply wrong. There has always been slavery, and color has had little to do with it. In Africa, it was Arabs, with Black soldiers and slave-keepers enslaving Whites.

The book, however, dealt lightly with the facts and, based I'm guessing on limited resources, kept repeating itself to fill out the pages.
