Notes:During the Dust Bowl and the Depression, Jeanine's gambler father dies, leaving her, her two sisters, and her mother with nothing but a race horse. They move back to the family farm, long abandoned, and do whatever they can to survive. When youngest daughter, Bea, falls down a well and needs surgery, Jeanine sells the horse to rancher Ross for $200 and 10% of his winnings. Meanwhile, her mom invests in an oil well. After a couple years, much poverty, and a lot of struggles, the well produces, the race horse begins winning big pots, and Jeanine marries Ross.

Review - Stormy Weather

Well-written slice of life book about surviving in hard times. Jeanine's character—the strong one in the family who was willing to take on whatever needs to be done—was easy to root for.
