Notes:Fifteen-year-old Ralph (innocently) runs foul of the police in Boston. To avoid having to send him to reform school, his mother sends him to his grandfather's farm in Maine. Thomas is a cantankerous man with rarely a kind word for anyone. He lives on the farm with his housekeeper, Millie. He berates Ralph every moment until Ralph decides to leave and head back to Boston. But with some advice from his Uncle Levi, Ralph learns to understand his grandfather. He returns and helps his grandfather adapt to modern farming methods and make the farm a success. Along the way, Ralph has a crush on neighbor girl Annie.

Review - Fields of Home (5), The

The first part of the book, which was made up almost entirely or rants by Ralph's grandfather, got old, but once things turned around, the part about improving the farm was interesting.
