Charley Greer and Ben Collins are cattle brokers in Dodge City. They constantly come up against Ace Corbin, a crooked dealer who dishonestly gets cattlemen to sell to him and cheats the government cattle buyers. Charley knows that Ben won't fight, so he confronts Corbin himself. In the scuffle, a government agent is killed and Charley is arrested. Ben pays bail and, while waiting for his trial, Charley takes a job as trail boss for Betty Larrabee, who is trying to sell her father's herd. Charley leads the cattle up to Wyoming, dealing with Corbin's thugs and no water along the way. At Charley's trial, a witness is found who testifies against Corbin and also corroborates Charley's story that he shot the agent in self defense. Charley goes to the saloon and pretends to be drunk. Corbin hears and goes to kill him, but Charley, after waiting until Corbin fires first, kills Corbin. He then marries Betty and goes into ranching with her.

Review - Hang and Rattle

Reads like the stereotypical western, with cattle drives, duels, good and bad guys, a a beautiful woman all thrown in. From about page two, there could be no doubt about how it would end. But the writing was pretty good, and the story moved along.
