Notes:A series of interconnected short stories set in the coastal town of Coralio in the Central American country of Anchuria. Life is slow—apart from the arrival and departure of banana boats and the occasional political coup. The stories mostly revolve around the small population of Americans. The main theme is the escape from the capital of a deposed president with most of the republic's money and an opera singer. When they reach Coralio, the president commits suicide, and the opera singer local businessman Goodwin. In another story, an American banker flees to Anchuria with his daughter. He is arrested and he and his daughter are brought back to the states. Only it turns out, it's really the president and his mistress who head for the states. it was the banker who killed himself and the banker's daughter whom Goodwin married.

Review - Cabbages and Kings

Not at all what I was expecting from O. Henry, but enjoyable and often funny.
