The story of Whit and Melissa Livingston. Set in the late 1700's in New Hampshire. Both were teenagers from unhappy households. They fell in love, got pregnant, then got married and headed off into the wilderness to make a home. With help from neighbors, they carved a farm in a valley. They had two sons. During the Revolutionary War, Whit marched off to fight with Stark against Burgoyne. He was struck in the head but recovered and made it home to Melissa and his sons.

Review - Look to the Mountain

Took a long time to get anywhere. There was a lot of dialect dialogue along the way — folks talking about not much. It wasn't until the last twenty, when Whit went off to war and then made his way home to his family, that I even began to care about what happened to them.
