Five friends in Europe get split up when WWII began. Monica goes to New York to work for her Uncle Bill. She dates Eric, but really loves John, who stayed in Europe to fight for Poland, but now is in Mexico. Linda stayed too, because she also loved John. One night, while out with Eric, she gets a message from Linda asking for her help. Later that night, somebody kills Eric in Monica's apartment. Uncle Bill sends her to Mexico. On the flight, she meets Gibbs, the fifth member of their group. In Mexico, they all meet up at a house. There's another murder of an intruder, then someone tries to kill Monica. It's all confusing, but it turns out that Uncle Bill, Eric, and Linda are all Nazis. Gibbs is working with the FBI. John and Monica get married, but John says he has to go back to Poland to fight.

Review - Wings of Fear

If you got rid off all the passages that are just Monica wondering if John loves her or if somebody is trying to kill her or if somebody is hiding in the bushes, the book would be half as long. It was like stream-of-consciousness worrying by the main character. The plot made no sense. Five friends in Europe — two become Nazis, one an FBI agent, and one a leader in the Polish underground.
