Charles Rainier woke up on a park bench in Liverpool with no memory of anything after he was injured in WWI. He returns to his family's estate where he soon takes over the business and enters politics, becoming well-known and respected. But he's haunted by the two missing years. It isn't until the beginning of WWII that the memories flood back. He had been in an asylum with shell shock and had wandered away on Armistice Day. He met an actress named Paula, and she helped him hide away. In time, they fell in love and got married. He became a writer, and on a trip to Liverpool he hit his head and woke up in his former life. Now, 20 years later, he wants to find Paula. He returns to the spot where they confessed their love to each other and—Paula shows up. It turns out she was his wife. Knowing about his memory loss, she had tracked him down and married him, waiting patiently for the day when he would remember who she was.

Review - Random Harvest

It dragged some in the middle, but as I kept reading, I got into it, especially when the two missing years were cleared up. The ending was a surprise that I never saw coming.
