The author's account of a trip he took to New Guinea in 1937-38 to collect birds and skins for American museums. He sailed in a small boat with six others, spent time exploring on islands around New Guinea and up into the mountains on the main island, then sailed home on a freighter, accompanied by his mother who had sailed out to meet him. There isn't a great deal about the birds themselves—just the occasional paragraph. It's more about his adventures and the people of New Guinea—porters, natives, and Dutch overseers.

Review - Trail of the Money Bird

Interesting look into a place and time (just before WWII, which the Dutch knew was coming). I could wish there had been more about the birds themselves, and it was sad to hear about some cool and/or rare bird that he shot.
