The author's reminiscences and ramblings about parts of train culture that were disappearing in the 1940s—short lines, station hotels, trolleys, etc. Written in a disjointed manner that made it sometimes a bit difficult to follow, while at the same time not interesting enough to make me care.

Review - Slow Train to Yesterday

An interesting tidbit or story here and there, but mostly of interest only to extreme train enthusiasts and the author's mother. No doubt only as well known as it is because the people choosing books for the Armed Forces thought, "Trains, we need something for soldiers who like trains."
