Gunslinger Drag Harlan rides across the dessert and comes upon two men shooting at an injured man. He kills one of the men and sends the other scampering. The injured man, Morgan, dies, but not before asking Harlan to go to his ranch and take care of his daughter Barbara. Harlan discovers that Morgan was ambushed by a large gang of men ruled by Deveny, who has his eye not only on Morgan's ranch but on Barbara. Harlan takes over Morgan's ranch. Barbara doesn't know what to think of him, especially after Harlan joins forces with the bad guys. But that is only to get information and to encourage some of Deveny's men to desert. There's a lot of riding around and a lot of shooting. In the end. the bad guys are all killed and Harlan gets the girl and the ranch.

Reviews for "Drag" Harlan

Review -

A very early sample of the Western genre, with all the cliches that appear over and over. The writing is purple. Much of the narrative takes place by describing the looks in characters' eyes, which is ridiculous. Like (I just made this up, but it's the kind of thing that's all over the book(, "She could see in his eyes his steady resolve and fearlessness and also that he knew that Hayden knew that he knew Hayden had killed Morgan and wouldn't hesitate to kill again."

The story had so many loose ends and random characters and conflicting objectives it just got silly.
