Notes:An aging sportswriter named Word Smith writes an expose of the Patriot League, third major league that has disappeared from U.S. history after a scandal during WWII. The book tells the story of the Ruppert Mundy's, whose home park was leased to the war effort so that they had to play the entire 1943 season as a road team. The roster was filled with misfits, and the team was terrible. In 1944, the team was infiltrated by Communists who caused a scandal that destroyed the team and the league, which supposedly struck a blow to America itself.

Review - Great American Novel, The

A silly satirical story that never entertained me or caused me to think anything other than that Roth wasn't nearly as clever as he thought he was.
