An interesting read. Very much of a book of its time, with a lot of Australian lore.

| Notes: | First Napoleon Bonaparte Mystery When the Aborigine King Henry is killed on the Barrakee sheep ranch, Detective Bony is sent to investigate. He quickly determines that Henry Sinclair is the murderer, but He isn't satisfied—he wants to know more. While all this is going on, Ralph, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thornton (who own the ranch) returns from college and becomes engaged to Kate, the Thornton's beautiful niece. Ralph, however, soon begins meeting an Aboriginal girl named Nellie and, eventually, runs off with her. The police shoot Sinclair, but he escapes to the ranch of Mr. Dugdale, friend of the Thornton's, who is very much in love with Katie himself. Sinclair gives Dugdale papers to give to Mrs. Thornton, then dies. Ralph makes his way through a flood and gets the letters to Barrakee, where Bony grabs them. In the end, it turns out that Ralph is really the son of King Henry and Sinclair's sister. King Henry was blackmailing Mrs. Thornton and threatening to tell the world the Ralph is half Aborigine. Sinclair tried to kill King Henry but was almost killed himself when Mrs. Thornton arrived and killed King Henry herself. After finding out that Ralph had run off with Nellie, Mrs. Thornton dies of shock. Mr. Thornton makes Dugdale partner in his ranch, and Dugdale married Katie. |
