Notes:Loni Murrow, bird artist at the Smithsonian, returns to her Florida roots when her brother Phil tells her that their mother needs to be put in a retirement home. Loni and her mother never got along, especially after Loni's father died — supposedly by suicide. But as Loni tries to untangle the confusion of her youth, questions arise. She pries and pokes and, in the end, discovers that her father discovered a drug-smuggling ring run by locals, including his own boss. He didn't commit suicide — he was killed because of what he knew. And now that Loni knows, her life is also in danger. In the end, the bad guys get killed or caught, and Loni decides to move back to Florida with her new boyfriend.

Review - Marsh Queen, The

A chick book, complete with descriptions of clothing and a romance thrown in that has nothing to do with the story. It drags along slowly, with lots of extraneous, boring details, until the last few chapters, in which everything is settled rather suddenly.
