Review - Rhubarb in the Catbird Seat

I read this book because I've enjoyed Creamer's biography of Babe Ruth. This book is told from Barber's point of view—he wrote it and Creamer edited it into decent prose. Surprisingly, the part I enjoyed most was the account of Barber's youth—growing up during the Depression, managing college, getting into radio and then into broadcasting. The sections on his years in New York dwell largely on politics in the baseball and broadcasting worlds, and while tidbits on the development of sports broadcasting are interesting, a lot of it was just personalities and tensions between people.
