Notes:Subtitle: Rediscovering the Carolinas along the Route of John Lawson's 1700 Expedition

In 1700, an Englishman journeyed through South and North Carolina, describing plants and landscapes and visiting Indian villages. In 2014, the author retraced Lawson's walk in three- to five-day segments over the course of a year, describing plants and landscapes and visiting towns. After his trip, Lawson returned to England to publish his book. He then returned to North Carolina, got married, established a few towns, and was killed by Indians during a war.

Review - A Delicious Country

I made it through the whole thing, but it wasn't easy. I'm not sure why Lawson's trip is notable, except, perhaps to local historians. Huler's certainly isn't. He's a dull man, not at all poetic or whimsical, and he never convinced me that there was a point to his walk — except to complain about 21st century America and virtue signal his wokeness repeatedly. At NO point did I wish I was on his trip with him.
