Notes:Twelve-year-old Joey Shipman's father dies, leaving him the farm. This doesn't make his stepmother, Dulce, happy. She and Meacham, her boyfriend, make several attempts to kill Joey, so he runs away and finds Beau, his father's cousin, who also happens to be the town drunk. Joey and Beau find a job building fences. Meacham shows up to take Joey home, but doesn't get far before he tries to drown the boy. Beau rescues Joey and, thinking he killed Meacham, takes off west with Joey. They soon run into bank robber Miller Dawson, who takes them to an outlaw camp. A couple days later they escape with Alta, a young woman who was being abused by an outlaw. Dawson helps them get away. They run into various adventures — Beau is bitten by a rattlesnake, they meet up with a friendly sheep rancher, they have a run-in with a cattleman. Along the way, Beau and Alta fall in love and get married. Determined to mend his ways, Beau decides to go back and turn himself in for killing Meacham. They find out he didn't die after all. They get the local sheriff to head to the farm with them. Meacham makes another attempt to kill Joey but kills Dulcie instead and gets caught. Joey stays on the farm with Beau and Alta.

Review - Cloudy in the West

I listened to it on audio book. It wasn't amazing, but it kept my interest on several long drives.
