Notes:Subtitle: The U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal

While U.S. Marines defended their beachhead against the Japanese on Guadalcanal, the U.S. Navy fought a series of battles against the Japanese navy in an attempt to prevent them from landing more troops and supplies. In four battles in October and November, 1942, the two navies beat each other into smithereens. The U.S. lost many ships, but persevered, as nearly as I can tell, because the Japanese had extended their supply line too far. Hornfischer describes the ships, the officers, the actions, and the reactions, and ends with the after-war experiences of a few of the sailors involved.

Review - Neptune's Inferno

Not bad. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this book. It took me a long time to finish it. It didn't seem to have a cohesive narrative, but felt more like snapshots of the battles and the behind-the-scenes strategy.
