Notes:Detective Stone Barrington and his partner investigate the disappearance of a TV reporter whose body was taken from an ambulance after she had fallen from her apartment. The police think they have a suspect, but Barrington refuses to go along with it and loses his job. He's soon offered another job as a lawyer. More clues come in and he eventually figures out that the reporter's body was stolen by an embalmer who collects attractive bodies and preserves them. Along the way, Barrington figures out that his girlfriend is the one who pushed the reporter off her balcony.

Review - New York Dead

Originally I thought the plot was interesting -- a woman falls from a building and somehow lives, but then her body disappears on the way to the hospital. But from the start the gratuitous language and sex was a put off. There seemed to be less of that as the book moved along, but then the plot got ridiculous. While Barrington was working on the disappearing reporter case, the police department was working on two serial killer cases. After Barrington was kicked off the force, he just happened to solve both of those -- both of them involving people connected with the reporter case. Plus the cases he was working on for the law firm all tied into the reporter case. And then his girlfriend turns out to be the murderer. Just a ridiculous number of coincidences. I was looking for a new book series to read. This is NOT it.
