Notes:John "The Cat" Robie was a famous jewel thief before the war. He was betrayed by his fence and put in prison, but released by the Germans when they took over. They thought that criminals would help them against the French, but instead, Robie joined the resistance. He had enough money so that he no longer needed to steal, and he lived quietly in France, his identity known to the local police. But then jewel robberies began again, using The Cat's methods. Robie is forced to go on the run. He contacts his old resistance friends, who agree to help him find the thief, the only way Robie can clear his name. One potential target is Mrs. Stevens, who owns a great deal of jewelry. She has a daughter, Francie, who notices that Robie is watching her mother and figures out that he's The Cat, although she thinks he's also still a thief. When her mother's jewels are stolen, Robie is forced to tell her what he's up to so she doesn't turn him in. She agrees to help him. For cover, Robie hires a girl named Danielle to be seen with him. At the end of the season, there's a big ball attended by a lot of people with jewelry. Robie hides out and watches and sees the thief. He pursues and catches him — or her. It turns out to be Danielle. With help from Francie, Robie helps her escape in return for returning the stolen jewels. Then one of his resistance friends works out a deal with an insurance investigator to say that Robie was working for him. This clears him with the police. He realizes that he's in love with Francie, and that she helped him because she was in love with him.
