Notes:Subtitle: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon

The author and his buddy Pete decide to walk from one end of the Grand Canyon to the other. They were so unprepared that they had to give up after a handful of days. They continued only because other, much more experienced hikers went with them and because they took several breaks and had supplies dumped along their route. Fedarko waxed poetic about the views without ever giving me a very good idea of what he was looking at, promoted all things Indian, said all the expected stuff about evolution and climate change, and tried to find meaning in it all.

Review - A Walk in the Park

This is one of those goofy exploration books that's much more about the person doing the exploring than it is about the area. I would have liked to have found out a lot more about the canyon, but instead I read about how much they suffered, how intrepid they were to carry on, and how meaningful it all was. They couldn't hike along the river, so their only goal was to walk below the upper rim on the shelves. Fine. Whatever. But so what?
