Notes:The first half of the book contains several short stories I've already forgotten. The back half is a novel titled Eve in Hollywood. Evelyn Ross (from Rules of Civility) goes to Los Angeles on a whim and makes friends with Olivia de Havilland, who lives at her hotel. When a photographer takes a compromising photo of the actress, Eve manages to destroy it. She's hired by a studio to protect Olivia from future mishaps. A short time later, more compromising photos arrive, taken through a two-way mirror at a party, along with a blackmail note. With the help of a retired cop, and out-of-work actor, and an aspiring stunt man, she schemes to stop the blackmailers. Everything goes according to plan until the security guard at the hotel sees a chance at an easy windfall. He follows the ex-cop, knocks him out, kills the blackmailers, takes the money and the photos and frames the ex-cop. But Eve is ahead of him and, pretending to make a deal with him, she slips him a mickey and recovers the photos and cash while the ex-cop, recovered, flips the evidence back on the security guard where it belongs.

Review - Table for Two

Like I said, I can't remember the short stories except that a few were very woke — or at least the characters portrayed were. The novel was enjoyable, although I don't remember Rules of Civility well enough to remember the character of Eve.
