Notes:Subtitle: Alchemy, Bombards, and Pyrotechnics: The History of the Explosive that Changed the World

A history of gunpowder, from its creation by the Chinese in the 10th century to its replacement by manufactured explosives in the late 1800s. The author covers the manufacture, use, danger, and history, with a lot of emphasis on its military use over the centuries. Now, with synthetic explosives and atomic energy, gunpowder is generally used only in some specialty mining operations, by historical reenactors, and in fireworks. It shows how the effort to make more efficient gunpowder actually led to the development of scientific discover and the industrial revolution.

Review - Gunpowder

A fairly interesting read that seemed, by necessity I suppose, to wander from the history of gunpowder to the history of battle at times.
