Notes:Sixteen-year-old Elizabeth is tired of obeying everything her strict mother demands, so she fakes an I.D. and goes to a club with a friend. They're hit on by two men who turn out to be part of the Russian mob. One of them has been embezzling mob funds, and Elizabeth sees hitmen kill him and her friend. She flees, calls the cops, and is taken into custody. She's put in witness protection, but the Russians have cops on the payroll and her handlers are kills. She runs again and for 12 years hides out and moves from place to place. She ends up outside a small town in Arkansas. Brooks, the local police chief begins pursuing her and they begin a relationship. In time, she trusts him enough to divulge her past. He helps her contact the FBI and arranges for her to testify, not only against the Russians but also against the crooked cops who tried to kill her. Outside the courtroom, Brooks shoots her with a blank and, with the help of FBI agents, she's proclaimed dead. She goes back to Arkansas and marries Brook.

Review - Witness, The

Too much sex and Elizabeth was too smart, too perfect, too on top of things to be real, but it kept me reading.
