Notes:Beth Carson, just out of school, gets a job at Babbacombe's department store, in the gowns department. On her first day, she meets David, the son of the owner. When she finds out he doesn't work but lives off his father, she lectures him. He's smitten and goes to his father for a job in the store. They like each other, but both Beth and her father feel that it wouldn't work since the Carsons are poor and the Babbacombes are wealthy. Things are complicated by Beth's spoiled cousin, Dulcie, who wants David for herself. When old Mr. Babbacombe discovers that David is dating the Carson girl and mistakes Dulcie for Beth, he quarrels with David. David quits the store and gets work in a garage, which frees him from his father's expectations. He and Beth get engaged. Then an idea David came up with is accepted by the Navy. Beth needs to get hold of David to tell him, so she goes to Mr. Babbacombe. When the old man realizes she's not the girl he thought she was, he helps contact David and blesses the marriage.

Review - Babbacombe's

A tight little pat story that's most interesting for the view it gives of life in England in the 1940's. The plot was fine, except that toward the end it kept jumping scenes to make it all end quickly.
