Notes:Novel written as a journal. Emma returns to her family home in London after being away at finishing school. Her Uncle Archibald, who has been in charge of the estate until Emma reaches 21, has spent all the money out of spite. To earn money so she can keep the house, Emma has rented the apartment that takes up one end of the house. She is friends with Mary, who hangs around with Jack, a man of questionable morals. And her Aunt Eugenia is expecting Emma to be a suitable escort for her one-year-younger cousin Arabella, who is coming out this season. Emma loves to read but had to sell her father's library. This is the first book in a series.
