Review - Alienist, The
Gross, implausible, and most deadly of all, boring. I skipped the middle third of the book and was able to pick things up with ease.

| Notes: | In the 1890s in NYC, somebody is killing boys in a ritualistic manner. Police commissioner Teddy Roosevelt, asks his friends, psychologist (alienist) Dr. Lazlo Kriezler and reporter John Moore to look into it. They are assisted by the Isaacson brothers, who are cops, and Sara, a secretary in the police department. They gather information about the killer, study it to find out what kind of man he is and what his live must have been like to cause him to do what he does. Then they begin looking for a man who fits the profile, ending up with one John Beechman. They track him to the spot where he's most likely to make his next move and kill him. Along the way the group is harassed by members of the police force who don't like them meddling in their corruption and graft. |
