Notes:Aunt Eugenia shows up unexpectedly at Emma's house to meet her chaperone, a woman Emma invented to keep her aunt at bay. Emma makes a quick appeal to Jack who sends an accomplice who totally convinces Eugenia. Pierce and Emma contemplate their new relationship after Pierce kissed her. The decide they want to proceed. Pierce is set upon in a bar, and Islington and Hawkes rush to his rescue. Emma accompanies Islington to a party. He gets sick, faints, and falls into her arms just as the hostess walks in on them. To protect Emma's reputation, Islington makes up a story about Emma being his ward. This angers Aunt Eugenia who hires a doctor to declare Emma mentally deficient so Eugenia can continue to control her and force her to marry Eugenia's choice. Islington fights back, but it's Hawkes who shows up with a letter from Emma's father asking Hawkes to be Emma's guardian, but only if it becomes necessary to rescue her from Eugenia. But the letter was written in such a way that it appears that it could refer to Islington, foiling Eugenia's plans. When Emma asks Hawkes why her father asked him to be her guardian, he requests permission not to answer. And as the Season in which Arabella is to pick a husband arrives, suddenly there's a prettier woman, a Miss Silver, on hand.

Review - Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Vol.7, The

It certainly keeps my interest, but the coincidences are adding up. People Emma knows continually reveal that they also know each other. And suddenly, among her close friends, she's involved with Pierce, the nominal ward of Islington, and the actual ward of Hawkes. I'm sure I'll keep enjoying the series going forward, but I think I'm going to have to think of it as fantasy — like life inside a snow globe.
