Notes:Millionaire Samuel W. Westing is dead (supposedly), and 16 heirs are gathered together in an apartment building called Sunset Towers. The heirs are paired off and given clues to the murderer. The clues are words from America, and the missing words spell out the name of Westing's ex-wife. When everyone is gathered to guess what the clues mean, nobody gets it right. Turns out Westing is still alive and has disguised as the doorman ... or something.

Review - Westing Game, The

At no point during this story did I understand (or care) what was happening. I'm convinced that no reader ever has. The author herself admitted that she made it up as she went along. It was a muddle with a constantly changing POV, with nonsense about bombs and Chinese restaurants, with clues to a murder that didn't happen, and with... whatever. I figured out the song lyrics almost immediately, but didn't care enough to put them together to find out what words were missing.
