Alice's Adventures in Wonderlandby Lewis Carroll
"Fiction - Chapter Books"|
|Year of Publication:||1865|
|Notes:||Alice, a young girl, falls asleep in a meadow and dreams that she follows a White Rabbit down a rabbit hole. She has many wondrous, often bizarre adventures with thoroughly illogical and very strange creatures. Alice encounters such characters as the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat, the Duchess, the Mad Hatter, the Mock Turtle and the Red Queen.|
COMMENTS — Often considered by critics to be a satire on language, a political allegory, a parody of Victorian children’s literature or a reflection of contemporary ecclesiastical history. But Dodgson claimed it was nothing more than “a dream, a fairy tale about the trials and tribulations of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child.” Through the Looking Glass is the sequel.
