This is one case where the movie is better than the book. But that isn't to say the book isn't good. I like the characters, I like the story and I like the way Nevil Shute goes about telling it. But I wish he could have done it without the spiritualist bit. It doesn't take up much of the tale, but it does add an "oh brother" section in the middle of an otherwise enjoyable story.
