Notes:Subtitle: Sinking of the Lusitania

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the only way to travel across the Atlantic was by ocean liner. The Lusitania was a luxurious ship built for this very purpose. On May 1, 1915, the Lusitania left New York for the final time. Many Americans were on board including the wealthy Alfred Vanderbilt. The journey went smoothly until May 7, 1915. The coast of Ireland was in sight when German U-boat U-20 torpedoed the Lustinania. It sank 18 minutes later. 1,198 people, including 128 Americans, were killed.
