Reviews for The Pink Panther

Review - Pink Panther, The

Princess Dala has a splendid diamond, one with a flaw in the shape of a pink panther. Famous jewel thief, Charles Lytton (a.k.a. The Phantom) wants it. He follows the princess to Switzerland and plots to find out the jewel’s location. His mistress is also there, plotting with him. But it just so happened that his mistress is Simone Clouseau, wife of the inspector who is searching for the Phantom. Clouseau is also in Switzerland, following the princess in expectation that the Phantom will show up. And insanity begins ...

Clouseau didn’t really play a very big part. His major role was to blunder around while his wife tried to hide her lover. Charles was the major character. The movie moves slowly, unlike movies made these days, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The scene where George and Charles, both dressed in gorilla costumes, search for the diamond, is indeed funny. The ensuing car chase, with two gorillas driving convertibles and trying to find a way out of town, was also very funny.

Off the IMDB web site — In the bath scene with Capucine and Robert Wagner, an industrial strength foaming agent is used which burnt both of the stars' skin. Wagner, who was completely immersed at one point, became blind for four weeks.
