Joe Ross has developed a “process” that is going to make his company a lot of money. His boss, Mr. Klein, is reluctant to come to a settlement with him. While on a business trip in the Caribbean, Joe meets Jimmy Dell, who appears to be a rich playboy. Back in New York, Joe meets with Jimmy several times and tells him about his frustration at work. Jimmy offers to have Joe meet with his lawyer, but before the meeting takes place, Joe finds out Jimmy is a scam artist and contacts the FBI. At least he thinks it’s the FBI. Turns out it’s just more people in on the scam, and they make off with his process. Joe goes to the real FBI, but they just convince him he’s in deep trouble for stealing the process. He turns to his friend George, but when he gets to George’s apartment, he finds George stabbed to death with his (Joe’s) pen knife. He then goes for help to the last person he can think of, a lowly secretary in his office, Susan. Susan pretends to help him, but it turns out she’s in on the deal too. Joe confronts her on the Boston water taxi, but the Jimmy shows up and tries to kill him. Joe is rescued at the last minute by a U.S. Marshall working with the FBI. Jimmy and Susan are arrested. We never find out what happened to the process.

Very intricate plot, and I’m not sure I even now understand it all. The most striking thing about this movie is the pacing. The suspense builds slowly and steadily as I tried to determine who could be trusted and who couldn't. It has its share of plot flaws, and isn't a perfect movie, but it makes for a fun two hours of intriguing fun. Check it out next time you're in the mood for something different.
