Review - Revenge of the Pink Panther
A confusing plot. Douvier is a French businessman who wants to do a drug deal with a New York syndicate. To prove that he can operate with the big boys, he has his men kill Chief Inspector Clouseau. They mess up and kill a criminal instead, but everyone thinks Clouseau is dead. Ex-Chief Inspector Dreyfus is released from the insane asylum (even though he died at the end of the last movie) to take of the investigation of Clouseau’s death. Douvier dumps his secretary/mistress Simone, and she betrays him to Clouseau, then teams up with him. Everyone ends up in Hong Kong. Clouseau impersonates Scallini, the New York crime boss and meets with Douvier. Scallini and his men follow, as does Dreyfus. There’s a big shoot-out in a fireworks factory, and the bad guys get arrested. Clouseau survives and gets another medal and ends up with Simone.
As with the previous movie, the plot was stupid. There were too many characters, many of which added nothing. But Sellers was again genius. His comic timing was superb. Sally was laughing so much I had to keep going back to hear what was said. Some great moments, including Clouseau as the Godfather. The scene at the end, where he's given a medal by the President of France is also hilarious.
