Reviews for The Big Sleep
Review - Big Sleep, The
Based on the mystery novel by Raymond Chandler. I had to watch it twice to fully comprehend what was happening, but it was worth it. The mood and characters were great (it's Bogie and Bacall, after all), and it was a lot of fun to see.
Gen. Sternwood hires detective Philip Marlowe to stop the person who is blackmailing him for his daughter Carmen’s gambling. Marlowe soon finds out there’s more to the story, including a missing butler, Carmen’s sister Vivian’s involvement and a pile of dead bodies. I’m not at all sure I understand the plot except in a very general way, but the characters and mood were great. Marlowe ends up getting the bad guys and Vivian. Carmen is sent away to get help for her drinking and carousing.
