Mary Steenburgen makes this movie work. Nicolson is always a bit too close to insane for my taste, and the action is slow.

Description: | Henry Moon (Jack Nicholson) is captured by a posse while trying to escape to Mexico. There's a law in town that any single or widowed woman can save a man from the gallows by marrying him. Julia Tate (Mary Steenburgen) needs a man to help her work her mine ... They don't get along at first — or even later much. But when Henry's old gang shows up and tries to get the gold they've found, Henry and Julia work together to save their gold and their marriage. |
