Review - Ghost Busters

Venkman, Stantz and Spengler are paranormal scientists who are fired from their job at a university. They decide to go into business as ghostbusters and fix up an old firehouse. They hire Zeddmore, a fourth member of the team. Their first client is Dana Barrett, who opened her refrigerator and saw a large temple. While Venkman proceeds to try to date Dana, the Ghostbusters investigate the outbreak of ghost activity in New York. It develops that an acient Summerian god named Gozer is returning to earth, drawn by the paranormal magnet built into the apartment building where Dana lives. Unwillingly, Dana is taken over as one of Gozer’s minions. But the local EPA official has other plans. He shuts down the Ghostbuster’s containment facility and lets all the ghosts they’ve caught loose on the city. The mayor asks the Ghostbusters to do something. They head to the top of Dana’s building and confront Gozer. At first he’s in the form of a woman, but then he asks the Ghostbusters to choose what form the Destroyer should take. Stantz can’t keep himself from thinking of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, and soon a giant marshmallow figure is marching through Manhattan, crushing everything in his path. The Ghostbusters cross the rays of their guns, sending the ghosts back where the came from and causing Gozer to explode ina shower of marshmallow.

• Best line: as the Ghostbusters are entering a hotel, some guy asks them what they’re doing. Venkman says their exterminators.
Guy: Must be some cockroaches
Vankman: Bite your head off.

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve seen this movie, and I totally forgot just how funny it is. The lines keep on coming. It actually manages to be intense and hilarious at the same time.
