Reviews for The Alamo
Review - Alamo, The
Why I saw it: I saw it in the theater when it first came out and thought it was pretty good. I just read The Gates of the Alamo, the Carp book for March, so I thought I’d watch it again.
Brief Synopsis: Covers the events from the arrival of Crockett, Bowie and Travis in San Antonio, through the siege and massacre, to Houston’s victory at San Jacinto.
What I liked about it: It was epic, with good sets and good characters.
What I didn’t like about it: It somehow seemed a bit to aware of itself. Thornton didn’t seem like Crockett — he seemed like a parody of Crockett. Same for the others. I’m not sure why. Maybe it stuck too close to history and didn’t get into much of the emotional background of the subjects.
